(Aug. 22) – Dallas alternative investment management firm Highland Capital has tapped Frederic Chang to be its assistant general counsel for affiliate company NexPoint Advisors.

Chang, a former real estate lawyer at Hunton Andrews Kurth, will help manage all of the legal activities related to NexPoint’s real estate investments. According to a Highland Capital spokeswoman, the firm created the position in response to growth in its real estate business. Chang joined Highland Capital on Aug. 1.

A St. Mark’s School of Texas alumnus, Chang received his law degree from Duke University. He started his legal career in 2010 in New York at Cravath Swaine & Moore in its real estate group. He moved back to Dallas in 2013 to join Andrews Kurth, where he advised clients on real estate transactions, including joint ventures, financings, development, leasing, and acquisitions and dispositions.
