Matthew Grunert, an employee benefits and executive compensation partner, has rejoined Norton Rose Fulbright in Houston from Bracewell. Grunert advises public and private companies, private equity sponsors and boards of directors on the benefits and executive compensation aspects of corporate transactions, according to a news release.
Before rejoining Norton Rose, Grunert practiced at Bracewell for seven years from 2018 to 2026, where he counseled clients on executive compensation, equity incentives and employee benefits matters tied to mergers and acquisitions, financings, restructurings and other strategic transactions. Before that, he was at Andrews Kurth for eight years from 2011 to 2018. He previously practiced at Norton Rose as an associate from 2006 to 2011. His experience also includes advising on deferred compensation plans, equity compensation arrangements, section 409A compliance, section 162 issues and partnership profits interests.
“Matt brings deep experience in employee benefits and executive compensation that is critical to providing a full-service offering for clients’ sophisticated, multidisciplinary transactions,” said Jeff Cody, Norton Rose’s global and U.S. managing partner. “His return to the firm strengthens our bench in an area that is integral to our transactional practice.”
Norton Rose recorded $572.2 million in Texas revenue last year, which is a 29.7 percent increase from 2024 and a reported a headcount of 411 lawyers, which is an increase of 2.2 percent according to the Lawbook 50.

Grunert focuses his practice on the employee benefits and executive compensation aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, financings, restructurings and other strategic matters. He also advises clients on the design, implementation and administration of deferred compensation plans and equity compensation arrangements, including stock options, restricted and phantom stock, retirement plans and related tax compliance issues.
