The Houston Bar Association and Houston Volunteer Lawyers (HVL) have found a new executive director by promoting from within.
Michael Hofrichter, who has spent his entire legal career with the HVL, is a logical choice. The 2010 University of Houston Law Center graduate joined the nonprofit full-time after interning with the pro bono organization while in law school.
Hofrichter has stepped up to serve as interim executive director and interim low income tax clinic director during his tenure at the HVL. He most recently was the operations and compliance director. The HBA and HVL joint announcement said its new leader has been instrumental in the continued development of HVL’s technology-based projects including online volunteer opportunities, disaster response and document assembly.
“In my career at Houston Volunteer Lawyers, I’ve focused on helping those in need—the clients with legal issues and the volunteers seeking pro bono opportunities,” Hofrichter said in a statement. “In this new role, I look forward to working with all the volunteers and staff of Houston Volunteer Lawyers to continue making an impact in our community and improving the lives of our neighbors and clients.”
Hofrichter is active outside of the HVL, too. He serves on the executive committee of the Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative and is a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Disaster Response and Preparedness, the Statewide Disaster Pro Bono Technology Committee and the Houston Bar Association’s Elder Law Committee and County Law Library Committee.
