April 28, 2022 Natalie Posgate

Kirkland & Ellis and Jackson Walker have paired up once again for a Texas bankruptcy, this time for Hess Corp. subsidiary Honx Inc.

Honx said Thursday that its Chapter 11 filing in the Houston division of the Southern District of Texas is designed to resolve asbestos claims brought by contractors and employees at a former oil refinery in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Houston partner Matt Cavenaugh and associate Veronica Polnick are on the Chapter 11 for Jackson Walker. Counsel info for Kirkland was not immediately available.

Leading the bankruptcy from Kirkland are Chris Greco, Matt Fagen, Mike Williams and Dan Donovan from the firm’s New York and Washington, D.C. offices.

In its voluntary petition, Honx lists its liabilities as far exceeding its assets: up to $1 billion in the former but only up to $50 million in the latter. The company estimates its has up to 5,000 creditors.

The bankruptcy has been assigned to Judge Marvin Isgur.
