Andrews Kurth Adds James Edward Maloney as Partner

December 17, 2012 – James Edward Maloney has joined Andrews Kurth as a partner in the firm’s litigation section in Houston. Maloney previously served as chair of the Securities Litigation Section at Baker Botts and was the long-time leader of that firm’s Employment Committee.

Since he started practicing in 1975, Maloney has represented businesses and executives in securities litigation, takeover disputes, class action claims and corporate investigations. He has tried more than 100 cases to a jury and represents clients before the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Trade Commission.


Andrews Kurth Elects Six Lawyers to the Partnership

December 17, 2012 – Andrews Kurth has elected six of its Texas lawyers to the partnership effective January 1, 2013. They are:

Stephanie C. Beauvais, whose practice focuses on capital markets, corporate, debt financing, energy, governance, initial public offerings, master limited partnerships (MLPs), private equity, and securities. She is in the firm’s Houston office and is a graduate of the South Texas College of Law (2004).

Peter A. Bogdano, whose practice focuses on banking/financial services, corporate, economic recovery and government opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, real estate/capital markets, securities, and venture capital. He is in the firm’s Dallas office.

Bud Doxey, Jr., whose practice focuses on real estate finance/capital markets and economic recovery and government opportunities. He is in the firm’s Dallas office and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law (1997).

Georgia L. Lucier, whose practice focuses on commercial litigation, probate, wills, and trust litigation, and arbitration/mediation. She is in the firm’s Houston office and is a graduate of the South Texas College of Law (2003).

Angela T. Richards, whose practice focuses on business tax, transactional tax, and MLPs. She is in the firm’s Houston office and is a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center (2004).

Mark A. Shoffner, whose practice focuses on commercial litigation. He is in the firm’s Dallas office and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law (2002).


Baker Botts Promotes 15 Associates, Nine in Texas

December 17, 2012 – Baker Botts will promote 15 lawyers to partnership status effective January 1, 2013. Nine of those lawyers are from either the firm’s Houston or Dallas office. They are:

James Chenoweth, whose practice focuses on federal income taxation, particularly regarding tax-free mergers and acquisitions, private joint ventures, master limited partnerships and tax controversy. He is in the firm’s Houston office.

Russ Crain, whose practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, trade secret and license disputes; patent portfolio development and licensing. He is in the firm’s Dallas office and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law (2004), where he served as the technology editor of the SMU Law Review.

Liz Flannery, whose practice focuses on patent litigation and prosecution. She is in the firm’s Houston office.

Walter Lynch, whose practice focuses on products liability, toxic tort, commercial and personal injury litigation. He is in the firm’s Houston office and is a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center (2004), where he served as the executive editor of the Houston Law Review.

Tom O’Brien, whose practice focuses on commercial litigation. He is in the firm’s Dallas office and is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law (2004), where he won the Outstanding Editor Award, Outstanding Constitutional Law Note Award, and Outstanding Memorandum Award and served as the chief note’s editor of the Texas Law Review.

Jason Rocha, whose practice focuses on securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and general corporate and partnership matters. He is in the firm’s Houston office and is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law (2003).

Kim Schlanger, whose practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions and joint ventures with a focus in the real estate industry. She is in the firm’s Houston office.

Robinson Vu, whose practice focuses on patent and contract litigation and patent prosecution. He is in the firm’s Houston office.

Chris Wilson, whose practice focuses on general commercial real estate matters and energy-related commercial transactions. He is in the firm’s Houston office.


Godwin Lewis PC Announces Two New Shareholders in Dallas

December 17, 2012 – Godwin Lewis PC will promote Senior Attorneys Timothy Alford and W. Ira Bowman to shareholder status effective January 1, 2013.

Alford, a civil litigator, focuses his practice on complex commercial, environmental, and energy litigation.

Bowman, a commercial litigator, represents plaintiffs and defense clients in state and federal courts.

Both attorneys are in the firm’s Dallas office and are graduates of Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law (2003 and 2005 respectively).


Jason Billeck Becomes Partner at Weil

December 17, 2012 – Weil, Gotshal & Manges names Jason Billeck partner of Complex Commercial Litigation for its Houston office effective January 1, 2013.

Billeck currently serves as Counsel in the Litigation department of the firm’s Houston office and concentrates his practice in the areas of complex commercial litigation and bankruptcy litigation. His commercial litigation experience includes class actions, antitrust disputes, breach of contract, fraud, and consumer claims.

Billeck is a 1997 graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, where he graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, and served as a member of the Houston Journal of International Law.
