Sidley Austin Adds Veteran Houston-based M&A Partner From White & Case

February 10, 2025 Nick Peck

Sidley Austin announced Monday that it has added Houston-based partner Steven Tredennick to its energy, transportation and infrastructure practice.

Tredennick joins Sidley after spending the last seven years at White & Case, where he served as a key partner in its Houston-based M&A practice.

“Steve’s broad experience allows him to handle a wide range of legal issues and some of the most complex energy transactions. He also has deep relationships with leading energy companies and PE funds that will help us expand our reach in these spaces,” Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley’s Management Committee Chair, said in a recent release.

Tredennick graduated from Whittier College in 1993 and received his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1997.

After law school, Tredennick joined Bracewell & Giuliani, where he worked for 17 years, before joining Paul Hastings in 2012, where he worked for over six years before his most recent stop in 2018, White & Case

From each of these experiences, Tredennick gained a combined 25 years of legal expertise, with explicit, in-depth experience advising North American and European investors and public and private companies across a broad spectrum of industries on various topics.

However, his gained experience primarily comes from working with and serving companies focused on investing in or operating within the energy industry, which Sidley will look to leverage.

“A number of our partners know and have worked with Steve, and they are looking forward to collaborating with him again,” Cliff Vrielink, global leader of Sidley’s energy, transportation and infrastructure practice and co-managing partner of its Houston office, said in a recent release.

In addition, the move comes less than a week after the firm also added Paris Theofanidis, a Houston-based finance lawyer, as a partner in the same practice that Tredenick will work within and a little under a year after it brought on Stephen M. Boone, Jr. to the same Houston office that Tredenick joined.

“With the addition of Steve, Paris Theofanidis, and Stephen Boone, our Houston office continues to expand our team of experienced and trusted advisors in order to serve the increasing needs of our clients in energy and across industries,” Vrielink said.
