July 18, 2018 Mark Curriden

The Texas General Counsel Forum announced Wednesday that the top legal officers at Toyota, Conoco-Phillips, Keurig Dr Pepper, Varsity Brands, Hanger and the Texas State Board of Pharmacy are among the 2018 winners of the Magna Stella Awards.

The GC Forum, which comprises about 650 leaders of the state’s leading corporate in-house legal departments, also revealed that the organization is honoring Conoco-Phillips General Counsel Janet Langford Carrig with its Lifetime Achievement Award and the recently transplanted Toyota legal department with its Diversity Award.

The GC Forum created the Magna Stella Awards in 2006 to recognize excellence and success among corporate in-house lawyers.

This year’s Magna Stella dinner is Nov. 15 in Austin. The 10 recipients for 2018 include:

Lifetime Achievement Award: Janet Langford Carrig of Conoco-Phillips

General Counsel for a Large Legal Dept.: James Baldwin of Keurig Dr Pepper;

General Counsel for a Small Legal Dept.: Burton Brillhart of Varsity Brands;

General Counsel – Solo: Thomas Hartman of Hanger;

General Counsel for a Non-Profit/Government Agency: Kerstin Arnold of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy;

Senior Managing Counsel for a Large Legal Dept.: Andrew Gratz of LyondellBasell;

Corporate Legal Dept. Counsel for Major Litigation: Tonja De Sloover of Energy Transfer Partners;

Corporate Legal Dept. Counsel for Major Transaction: Victoria Lazar of General Electric; and

As part of a partnership with the Texas General Counsel Forum, The Texas Lawbook plans to publish in-depth profiles of the Magna Stella winners in early November.
