Akin announced today it has added the head of the energy transactions practice at Hunton Andrews Kurth to its Houston office.
Ian Goldberg, who practiced for the last five years at Hunton AK, counsels clients on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, project development and financial transactions involving oil and gas assets, energy transition investments and rare earth mineral deposits.
“Our energy practice continues to see strong client demand in both traditional energy and energy transition work,” Akin chairperson Kim Koopersmith said in a statement. “Ian’s experience perfectly complements our comprehensive transactional offerings in Houston.”
In 2023, Goldberg was on the Hunton AK team that advised Corpus Christi-based EnCore Energy Corp. on a $42 million public offering and was involved in the firm’s representation of the controlling partner of Midland-Petro D.C. in its $330 million sale to Northern Oil & Gas.
In another deal for EnCore Energy, Goldberg played a key role in the company’s 2022 acquisition of the Alta Mesa In-Situ Recovery uranium project from Energy Fuels Inc. for $120 million.
The 2011 graduate of the University of Houston Law Center was also involved in Shell USA’s $1.96 billion acquisition of Shell Midstream Partners. Hunton AK handled the legal work for Intrepid Partners, which advised the conflicts committee on the deal.
