(Aug. 26) – David Cabrales, former general counsel to Texas Governor Rick Perry, recently moved his private litigation practice to Gardere Wynne Sewell, where he joins the Dallas office as a partner.
Cabrales, who was most recently at Locke Lord, represents financial institutions, securities broker-dealers, retailers and life and health insurance companies in traditional, class-action and multidistrict lawsuits and arbitrations.
In addition to his litigation practice, Cabrales will assist the firm’s government affairs team in Austin.
While serving as Gov. Perry’s general counsel, Cabrales also acted as the principal economic development advisor for the governor and helped administer the Texas Enterprise Fund, the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and Texas One. He was appointed to the Texas Economic Development Corporation in 2010 and again in 2014.
Cabrales, a graduate of SMU Dedman School of Law, is a member of the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee, which is composed of leading Texas attorneys who screen and recommend nominees for vacancies on the federal bench and in U.S. attorney offices across Texas.
