Alexa won two first place awards from the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists: one was for a story examining the foster care system and the other was for her coverage of the attorney general election and retention of Indiana Supreme Court justices.

Wilson Elser to Pay $102K in Sanctions for Conduct in Toyota Center Personal Injury Case

Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker has been ordered to pay sanctions for failing to comply with court orders. While the firm is ordered to pay over $102,000 to compensate the plaintiffs for their attorney fees, the Harris County District Court warned further violations will result in more severe sanctions.

Dallas Business Court Jury Trial Ends with Directed Verdict

Judge Andrea Bouressa granted the defense's motion for directed verdict Wednesday afternoon and dismissed the jury on the second day of trial. This is the first jury trial for the newly established court to reach a conclusion.

Galveston Jury Awards $57M in Breach of Contract Trial

A team of Porter Hedges attorneys secured over a $57 million jury verdict for their client, Shintech Incorporated, earlier this week. The manufacturing company accused Olin Corporation of breaching its contract by refusing to provide the agreed-upon amount of vinyl chloride monomer.

Dallas County Judge Emily Tobolowsky, who is not seeking reelection, denied the motion to dismiss two elders from the defamation lawsuit against Gateway Church. The nondenominational, evangelical Christian megachurch has been tangled in several lawsuits following sexual abuse allegations against Robert Morris, its former senior pastor.

Jury Awards $20.2M in Dispute Between Business Partners

A two-and-a-half-week trial concluded with the jury awarding just over $20.2 million to a car dealership executive after finding his business partner liable for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. The pair are still business partners but are working toward untangling themselves so they can go their separate ways.

Exxon Added to Unfair Competition Suit

In an amended complaint filed Monday with the Texas Business Court, Clean Hydrogen Works has added Exxon Mobil as a defendant in an antitrust and unfair competition suit. Exxon’s affiliate Denbury Carbon Solutions filed a motion for partial summary judgment last week.
