Prior to joining The Lawbook, Pusey was the editor and publisher of the ABA Journal, which is the nation’s largest circulation legal publication. Before his decade with the Journal, Pusey spent 26 years as a reporter and editor at The Dallas Morning News, where he was a special projects editor and covered the Supreme Court of the United States.

A former director at the Center for Public Integrity, Pusey brings extraordinary experience and knowledge of the legal industry to The Texas Lawbook. Our readers are now the beneficiaries of his amazing talent as a writer and editor.

Pro Se Plaintiff Whiffs at Fifth Circuit in Case Against MLB

Former professional baseball player and sports nutrition vendor Neiman Nix lost his appeal of a case he filed in Texas against Major League Baseball — arguing that the league's ban of a growth hormone discriminated against his business selling products that included it. It's a case he'd filed, and lost, elsewhere. And that was the problem, the Fifth Circuit said.

Sidley Advises United Airlines in Historic Widebody Aircraft Purchase

A team led from Houston advised the airline in a widebody aircraft inventory overhaul that will include as many as 200 Boeing 787s over the next decade. Along with earlier announced acquisitions, the company says it will be accepting delivery of some 700 new aircraft, averaging delivery of as many as two per week in 2023.

Whatever its purpose or intent, a letter from five GOP senators to 51 lawyers involved in ESG transactions at their firms was mystifying to those who would talk about it. Sent five days in advance of the recent mid-term elections, the threatening tone of the letters was in keeping with a series of attempts to curb, through their lawyers, corporate support for environmental mandates, energy transition investments and changes in corporate governance — despite increasingly vocal and influential investor demand.

  • P.S. — Texas Appleseed Launches 30th Anniversary Campaign with $1.5M Goal  - In this edition of P.S., the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers' 2025 Leadership Class capped its nearly yearlong charitable efforts Saturday with a day of service at Viola's House, a nonprofit that provides maternity housing and support for expectant mothers facing unstable living situations. The lawyers are now exploring ways to package the professional development curriculum for Viola's House and other nonprofits. Several DAYL Leadership Class projects have become lasting initiatives, including The Freedom Run 5k run and one-mile walk, created by the 2001 Leadership Class that raises funds for the Dallas Police Association's Assist the Officer Foundation.
