Prior to joining The Lawbook, Pusey was the editor and publisher of the ABA Journal, which is the nation’s largest circulation legal publication. Before his decade with the Journal, Pusey spent 26 years as a reporter and editor at The Dallas Morning News, where he was a special projects editor and covered the Supreme Court of the United States.

A former director at the Center for Public Integrity, Pusey brings extraordinary experience and knowledge of the legal industry to The Texas Lawbook. Our readers are now the beneficiaries of his amazing talent as a writer and editor.

Q1 2019: A Very Mixed Bag for Financial Advisors

As previously reported, the usual law firms saw decent numbers for Q1 deal counts involving Texas firms, but the drop in values were steep. Not surprisingly, financial advisors were not spared. Although the top Q1 deal counts belonged to the usual suspects, the drop in values was startling, according to Mergermarket data for Texas provided exclusively to The Texas Lawbook.

State Bar Discipline: Three Judges, 23 Lawyers, and a Few Felonies

The State Bar of Texas has released its May disciplinary report. Aside from standard infractions of case inattention and inappropriate political endorsements, breaches of the canons cited by the bar's disciplinary panels this month also include money-laundering, wire fraud, theft, income tax evasion and fixing tickets for friends of a musician named Fruity Villareal. SCOTX: A Contract is a Contract, Even If It’s a Jury Charge

In a holding that should surprise almost no one familiar with the Texas Supreme Court, a unanimous court ruled Friday that a jury charge – like any contract – means what it says it means.   • P.S. — Haynes Boone Tops Law Firms in United Way Giving in Houston; King & Spalding, Baker Botts Follow - In this edition of P.S., Jackson Walker has established the Jackson Walker Endowed Scholarship Fund in Memory of Emma Hackney at SMU Dedman School of Law, honoring a former associate in its banking and finance practice who was killed in a car wreck last year.
