(April 15) – The Tahirih Justice Center selected Baker Botts Houston senior associate Kathleen Weir as the winner of its Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award, the firm announced today. Weir will be presented the award at Tahirih’s 2014 Houston Gala on Sept. 20 at the Houstonian Hotel.

“Kathleen provides outstanding representation on especially challenging and complex cases,” the U.S.-based NGO said in a statement. “Her courageous clients have escaped the hands of traffickers, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and honor killings.”

“As a diligent advocate, Kathleen meets with her clients over many months to ensure the compelling nature of each case is presented comprehensively in order that her clients may receive the protection they so richly deserve.”

Weir, who also serves as an Advisory Council Member, Bighearted Attorney Coordinator and Gala Committee Member for Tahirih, focuses her practice on environmental matters including regulatory compliance, enforcement, permitting and litigation.

Tahirih’s Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award is presented to an attorney who has demonstrated excellence in protecting immigrant women and girls from violence.
