Hunton Adds Bankruptcy and Restructuring Partner Ian Roberts in Dallas

August 21, 2026 Elle Grinnell

Ian Roberts, a bankruptcy and restructuring partner, has joined Hunton Andrews Kurth in Dallas. He will focus his practice on complex restructurings and distressed situations, with an emphasis on the energy and technology sectors, according to a news release.

Before joining Hunton, Roberts was a partner in A&O Shearman’s restructuring practice for seven years in Dallas. Before that, he returned to Baker Botts as Special Counsel for almost four years after serving as Senior Counsel at Hewlett-Packard for one year. Prior to that, he was an Associate at Baker Botts. Following law school, Roberts clerked for U.S. District Judge Hayden Head of the Southern District of Texas.

“Ian brings a sophisticated restructuring and bankruptcy practice, a strong command of complex distressed matters, and deep experience across industries that are central to our clients and our platform,” said Tad Davidson, co-leader of the firm’s bankruptcy and restructuring practice. “His work in energy, technology, oil and gas, power, infrastructure, and other capital-intensive sectors aligns especially well with the needs of the Texas market. His addition enhances our ability to advise clients regionally and importantly, nationally, on high-stakes restructurings, distressed transactions, and special situations.”

Hunton recorded $192 million in Texas revenue last year, a 1.1 percent increase from 2024, and reported a headcount of 146 lawyers, an 8.8 percent decrease, according to the Lawbook 50.

AREAS OF FOCUS
Roberts focuses his practice on bankruptcy, restructuring and distressed transactions, representing debtors, purchasers, lenders, investment funds and other stakeholders in complex special situations. His experience includes Chapter 11 and cross-border restructurings, distressed acquisitions, liability management transactions, debtor-in-possession financing, insolvency-related corporate governance and restructuring litigation, with experience in the energy and technology sectors.
