James Matthews will be making the trip from Tokyo to Plano later this month as he transitions from managing partner of Vinson and Elkins’ Tokyo office to vice president, general counsel and secretary of Denbury Resources – an independent oil and natural gas company.
Matthews is replacing Ray Dubuisson, currently vice president of legal at Denbury, when Dubuisson retires in the first quarter of this year.
Matthews has over 21 years of legal experience, and has spent the last 11 at V&E. His primary focus has been on oil and gas finance transactions, and he has represented a wide range of clients, including public and private companies; private equity funds; real estate companies; commercial banks; commercial finance companies; mezzanine funds; and borrowers and issuers in connection with a wide variety of commercial and corporate transactions in the United States and Asia.
