Robert Hart has the Coolest Lawyer Job on Earth – Meet Mark Cuban’s General Counsel

For nearly three decades, Hart has been Cuban’s friend and chief legal adviser. “Mark goes at a very fast pace,” he says. “He’s out there everywhere. My job is to be his backstop… fill in the holes behind him. I’m here to help Mark do what he does best, but to make sure that he avoids legal pitfalls.”

In this in-depth profile, Hart discusses the challenges of being Mark Cuban’s top lawyer, the complexity of the deals he’s handled and the millions of dollars he spends annually on outside legal fees. Cuban, of course, also weighs in.

“[Robert’s] job is to be super conservative and to piss me off… but also to protect me,” Cuban says. “Here’s the thing: When I don’t follow Robert’s advice, it usually bites me in the ass.”

Memories of My Dad: The Story of a Visionary Business Lawyer

My dad was a visionary business lawyer who built one of the most influential law firms (Moore & Peterson) in Dallas history. He represented the state’s most important companies and pioneered techniques used in financing and structuring consolidations in the life insurance industry. Dad tried his best to talk me out of being an attorney. I’ve tried my best ever since to live up to the standards he set in his work ethic and integrity.

  • P.S. — Baker Botts Scores Two Pro Bono Victories in August  - Baker Botts closed out August with two notable pro bono victories — a due process claim on behalf of a Florida tenant in the Eleventh Circuit and a closely watched constitutional challenge to Texas’ drag ban. Also in this edition of P.S., we spotlight two Texas recipients among the American Association of Law Libraries’ annual award winners.  September 4, 2026Krista Torralva & Elle Grinnell
  • My Five Favorite Books: Brandy Treadway (Chief Legal Officer, Academy Sports and Outdoors) - When I was asked to contribute to this ongoing column, I was immediately excited — and then, admittedly, a little nervous. Books have always held a special place in my life. As a child, I was a voracious reader, and my mom would often find me tucked away in a closet with a flashlight, determined to finish whatever story had captured my imagination. As an adult, I have not always devoted as much time to reading as I did when I was younger, but books have remained an important way for me to connect — with friends, with family, and now with my own children. I chose these five books because each one has meant something to me at a particular stage of life, and each is one I have shared with someone else. September 2, 2026Brandy Treadway
