Greenberg Traurig Shareholder to Receive 2019 Chief Justice Jack Pope Award

August 23, 2019 Brooks Igo

The Texas Center for Legal Ethics announced this month that Greenberg Traurig shareholder Charles “Skip” Watson is the 2019 recipient of the prestigious Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award.

Watson, who practices in Austin, is being honored for being an attorney “who personifies the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in appellate law.”

“Skip Watson is, quite simply, one of the most honorable and ethical lawyers I have ever worked with, against, or around,” Houston appellate attorney Kevin Dubose, the 2012 recipient of the Pope Award, said in a statement. “I have never heard of anyone having an unpleasant experience or relationship with Skip, and that is rare for any lawyer.”

Watson chaired the State Bar of Texas appellate section committee that drafted the Texas Standards of Appellate Conduct. He currently serves on the Texas Supreme Court’s Rules Advisory Committee.

Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht will present Watson with the award on Sept. 6 in Austin at the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society Dinner.
