K&L Gates Adds Depth to IP, Energy Practices in Texas

July 15, 2019 Brooks Igo

K&L Gates recently announced five lateral additions in Texas, including a four-lawyer intellectual property group from Conley Rose.

The Austin-based IP team is led by Stewart Mesher – who chaired the Conley Rose litigation practice and was managing partner of its Austin office – and includes partners Darlene Ghavimi and Henry Pogorzelski and counsel Adam Stegge.

The fifth new hire is Houston oil and gas lawyer Jon Vicklund, who lateraled to K&L Gates from Winstead. He reunites with team of five energy lawyers who left Winstead for K&L Gates last year.

The three partners from Conley Rose all have in-house and industry experience. Mesher has previously worked as a senior patent attorney and IP strategy and licensing attorney at Advanced Micro Devices; Pogorzelski is a former chemical engineer for Exxon Chemical Company; and Ghavimi was a scientific researcher at A.I. DuPont Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware before going to law school.

“The addition of this highly regarded intellectual property group is a major step forward for the Texas offices of K&L Gates as we continue to build out our capabilities to serve clients in Texas and beyond, Jack Erskine, managing partner of the K&L Gates Austin office, said in a statement.

“With the technology and energy sectors continuing to grow in the state, K&L Gates is focused on enhancing our skill sets to reflect the direction of the Texas economy.”
