2017 was another banner year for Weil’s Texas offices, including the celebration of the Dallas office’s 30th anniversary and numerous successes for attorneys in both the Dallas and Houston offices.
Last year, Weil’s Texas attorneys were involved in many of the region’s and nation’s most significant transactions, financings, litigation and restructurings, including:
• Representing SoftBank Group Corp. in its $3.3 billion acquisition of Fortress Investment Group LLC
• Representing Blue Star Sports in the sale of a majority equity stake to Genstar Capital
• Representing ORIX USA in its acquisition of Lancaster Pollard Holdings LLC
• Securing a victory in a multi-day arbitration, subsequently confirmed by a court, concerning the disposition and control of millions of dollars in charitable foundation funds
• Winning a summary judgment in state court dismissing an $80 million claim
• Advising CHC Group in its financial restructuring and successful emergence from Chapter 11 with a court-confirmed Plan of Reorganization
Weil and its attorneys also earned numerous accolades, including Law360 Practice Group of the Year honors for the Firm’s Antitrust/Competition, Business Finance & Restructuring, Private Equity and Securities practices.
Out of 10 new partners and nine new counsel elected Firm-wide last year, four were in Weil’s Dallas office: new partners David Gail (Private Equity) and Benton Lewis (Banking & Finance), and new counsel Kevin Crews (Private Equity) and Ryan Gorsche (M&A).
In the community, Weil’s 5th annual “Dodge for a Cause” dodgeball tournament brought together over 30 Dallas companies for a spirited competition that raised $95,000 for the Vogel Alcove and its services for homeless children, bringing the event’s cumulative fundraising total to well over a quarter million dollars since inception.
