Fifth Circuit Analysis: In Arbitration, What are ‘Actions Seeking Injunctive Relief?’

Arbitration agreements often have carveouts for types of litigation, such as emergency injunction applications to protect intellectual property. Dallas Lawyers Think Better of Their Judges than Houston Lawyers (Then Again, Maybe…Or Not)

The Houston Bar Association recently released its biennial survey of lawyer ratings for judges. Dallas released a similar survey last May. ACC-DFW/Texas Lawbook 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award Goes to Gil Friedlander

For more than 13 years, Gil Friedlander led the EDS legal department. He masterminded some of the largest and most complex corporate transactions in Texas history. He showed that the general counsel was a critical strategic position within the business – not just a lawyer. And he championed diversity within the legal profession long before the cause was popular.

The DFW Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and The Texas Lawbook named Friedlander the first ever Outstanding Corporate Counsel Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • P.S. — New State Bar President Launches Campaign to Fund Legal Aid for Low-Income Texans  - When speaking to fellow lawyers, Santos Vargas often asks them a question to illustrate a point. “How many of you could hire yourselves for a protracted legal dispute?” The point is that many people don’t have the financial means to hire a lawyer when faced with a legal problem, which is why the newly minted State Bar of Texas president is on a campaign to raise money for low-income Texans to access legal services. Vargas aims to raise $300,000, with July donations supporting victims of the recent Texas Hill Country flood.  July 11, 2025Krista Torralva
