JC Penney announced that its deputy general counsel, Janet Link, has been named the interim GC until a replacement is named.

This year’s named distinguished alumni were: commercial litigator Mike Gruber; immigration attorney Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Cedillo-Pereira; Chevron Europe, Eurasia and Middle East Exploration & Production Limited General Counsel Siriporn Chaiyasuta; Human Rights Initiative of North Texas Executive Director Bill Holston; and SMU Dedman professor emeritus Joseph McKnight.

Gerald Welch, formerly of Dentons, will lead the Troy, Michigan-based firm's fourth office nationwide.

The addition of Kevin Lewis comes on the heels of three other lateral hires – energy finance partner Robert Stephens and private equity and oil and gas partners David Denechaud and Joe Flack – in the past four months. Lewis says he “cherished” his time at V&E and feels like he is moving from one excellent firm to another. He will help lead Sidley's corporate governance and compliance group and its airlines and aviation practice.

Former ExxonMobil attorney Francisco Mendez joins Mayer Brown's Houston office and will help lead the Chicago-based firm’s efforts to open an office in Mexico City. He says that though the dip in oil prices has affected the industry, he believes the oil and gas potential in Mexico will continue to attract all kinds of investments.

William Buck, the GC of Exxon Mobil Corporation’s Upstream Companies, has a message for corporate legal departments: Do your fair share of pro bono. The new Houston Bar Foundation chair, who specializes in transactional law, says, "I plan to remind all companies that we in-house lawyers also have pro bono obligations. We in-house lawyers are more than capable of handling some of these pro bono needs."

For more than 25 years, Houston trial lawyer Zoe Littlepage has been involved in some of the biggest and most complex disputes with medical device makers and pharmaceutical companies. The money, specifically earmarked for the Dallas Habitat Jimmy Carter Work Project, was raised at the inaugural DAYL Charity Ball in November.
