The Corporate Deal Tracker’s 2022 Law Firm M&A Rankings

No two law firms in Texas sat across the table from each other negotiating large mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures in 2022 more often than the Texas lawyers at Kirkland and V&E. Latham and Sidley were there several times, too. The Texas Lawbook’s Corporate Deal Tracker has its final 2022 law firm rankings for M&A activity by Texas lawyers have been tabulated. Some firms such as Haynes and Boone, McGuireWoods, White & Case, Katten and Munsch Hardt, scored big increases. Others saw large drops in deal count. What Murdaugh’s Testimony Can Teach Us

Few things capture the public’s imagination and make headline news daily as does a jury trial, especially one for murder. The latest example of such a case is the murder trial of disgraced South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh.

Banks Agree to Pay Stanford Victims $1.34B to Avoid Houston Trial

Three banks – Toronto-Dominion Bank, HSBC Bank and Independent Bank (formerly Bank of Houston) – have agreed to pay $1.34 billion to Ponzi-scheme victims of Houston financier R. Allen Stanford and his investment firm.

TD Bank, HSBC and Independent Bank were scheduled to stand trial starting today in Houston federal court where they were accused of aiding and abetting Stanford in perpetrating an $8 billion fraud against 18,000 investors.

  • P.S. — Haynes Boone’s Sean Lewis Honored with Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Pro Bono Award - In this edition of P.S., Haynes Boone associate Sean Lewis was recently recognized for more than 400 hours of pro bono service last year, including his trial representation of a minister and gospel singer who won a $973,000 jury verdict in a fraud lawsuit against a longtime acquaintance and former business partner.
