Match CLO Jared Sine ‘Taking on More of a Strategy Role’ at GoDaddy

For eight years, Jared Sine has navigated multibillion-dollar M&A deals and bet-the-company litigation at Match Group. On Friday, Sine announced that he is leaving the dating app tech company on March 11 to become the chief legal and chief strategy officer with GoDaddy, a $15 billion web hosting corporation, starting March 18. Sine’s deputy at Match, associate general counsel Jeanette Teckman, will step in as acting chief legal officer.

“At the end of the day, eight years is a long time to be at any one place,” Sine told The Texas Lawbook in an interview Friday. “We’ve built a great team — a phenomenal team that I would be hesitant to challenge if I was an opponent. It’s been a fun ride to be part of the growth at Match.”

State Bar Releases Judicial Election Poll Results

The State Bar of Texas recently released the results of a straw poll it conducts every election cycle that asks its members to cast a ballot for the judge or justice of their choice for the various contested races across the state. Houston Litigation Firm Vasquez Waite Off to ‘Fast and Furious’ Start

Cara Vasquez and Mark Waite are “complete opposites” on paper, but the unlikely duo decided to launch their own firm in 2024 focused on representing petrochemical and construction companies in litigation. Vasquez, who spent her entire career at DLA Piper, and Waite, who was a senior in-house lawyer at LyondellBasell before practicing at DLA for the past six years, launched Vasquez Waite on Jan. 1 and have been “way busier” than they anticipated.

Fifth Circuit Panel Hears Round 2 Challenge to SEC’s ‘No Admit, No Deny’ Policy

Christopher Novinger, of Mansfield, was before the Fifth Circuit for the second time on Thursday morning seeking relief from a “no admit, no deny” provision in a 2016 settlement agreement he entered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In July 2022 a different panel of that court rejected his attempt to free himself from the gag order provision via a Rule 60(b) motion that argued the “no deny” portion of the policy violated his First Amendment and due process rights.

California Resources Buys Aera Energy for $2.1B

Latham & Watkins lawyers in New York and Houston counseled Aera’s owners IKAV and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board on the deal, which will enhance CRC’s scale across both the upstream and carbon management businesses.
